Occupy Everything
To kick-off the Fall season of Theory Tuesdays, Philip Matesic will briefly present and lead discussion around the text "Open Call: Art, Democracy and the Culture of Consensus" by David Geers.
Geers defines a "culture of consensus" as "A culture predicated on interactivity that promotes an atmosphere of democracy while it, in fact, subdues us with the illusion of choice and collective agreement."
His essay addresses how an interactive society presents itself within and influences social movements, politics, pop culture and art. Geers's essay appeared in issue number 17 of Fillip, a Vancouver-based publication on art and culture.
This session will be held in English and it's encouraged that you read the essay beforehand.
